It's not dead...

...it's just moribund.  There's only one truth I know, and that's that life is a series of cycles.  The slump I'm in now is sure to eventually spiral back around to something more lively.  In the meantime, I keep having ideas of things to babble about here in blog-land, but when I begin to explore and flesh them out, I find that I really don't want to think that hard.

I'm gonna go watch tv.  Hopefully you'll still be here when I get back.

  1. let's call it cyclache(cycle+ache)... when one cycle is ending and the new one is emerging... it's painful most of the time... it really is...

i much relate to this figure... no! more than that... think it's me...

    who's the artist?

don't know why this line by Sohrab Sepehri came to my mind:

به سراغ من اگر می آیید
    نرم وآهسته بیایید
    مبادا که ترک بر دارد
    چینی نازک تنهایی من

if you come to visit me, come gently and quietly lest the thin china of my solitude cracks...

wish you a new year full of life...

    love and peace

  5. human being: That sculpture is in Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, MD. The chapel building next to it was being repaired when I took that photo a few years ago and both it and that grave were surrounded by a fence, so I wasn't able to get close enough to get any information about it. I definitely need to go back one day to see it up close.

Cyclache is an excellent word. And thank you for the line from Sepheri, very beautiful. Namaste.

Betty & Grover: Betty, it sucks, doesn't it? I think my problem is the opposite of yours, though-- I live too much for fun and haven't found anything to work towards. I think that what I need is what Groover has: goals and dreams and hard work. The challenge is figuring out my goals and dreams. Hence the slump.

birds fly: I just realized that I've been missing your posts since you changed blog names. I've got some catching up to do.

  6. I hope you will come back soon!

    I also really like cyclache.

Here's hoping you find some good, juicy, awesome goals and dreams that will inspire passion and hard work and all the fun stuff that comes along with it. I think sometimes it's easy to get kind of unmoored, at least I do, without those things - my problem is they're ever-shifting. It drives me f'ing crazy.

So, thinking of you! And good luck! And I think a lot of people are in slumps right now, so if nothing else, you're in good company :) Hope you come back to blogging soon!

  7. You're right, most of the people I know ended 2009 in some sort of funky slump. What was it about last year?

Unmoored is a good way of describing it. Normally it wouldn't bother me so much, I'd just go out and go for a hike or something, but even that's a less than appealing option lately, considering how crowded the trails have become and how freaking cold it is this winter. (Let's see, how many more things can I find to complain about? ;) )

  8. I rode over to the conservatory in Druid Hill Park with a friend today. It was bitter cold, but it felt good to be out riding with the air on my face (other than just to ride to work). I haven't been hiking or birding in over a month, I think. May go over to Blackwater NWR next weekend if I'm lucky. This winter has been tough so far.

  9. Don't know how I missed this. I agree with all the other comments, and I'll add something of MJK's:

    "spiral out, keep going"

and something for when it happens:

"I think it's turning back around
And I think I like it"
